Squaw Valley Institute (SVI) was thrilled to have such a terrific attendance for the Lake Tahoe film premiere of It Ain’t Pretty on November 18, 2016. Over 400 people joined us for this inspiring film that had such a positive impact in our community especially for our youth. Attendees got to meet the women in the film that are forging new tides in big wave competitive surfing. The Q & A opportunities the audience had with surfers; Bianca Valenti, Rebecca Wonderlich and Monique Kitamura were interesting and informative. Kathleen Egan, producer of It Ain’t Pretty, presented the film and talked about her goal when creating it to document what drives these women’s passion and how they are breaking stereotypes.
The event was an inspiration on many levels, guests enjoyed a special opening presentation by Keoki Flagg who unveiled new images from the 2017 Women of Squaw Alpine Ski Patrol calendar. Several of the incredible women of the Squaw Alpine Ski Patrol team were there to pre-sell the calendar. The official calendar debut will take place on November 26 at Gallery Keoki. See below for details. Proceeds from the calendar sales will benefit local avalanche education scholarships.
