Jeannie Conner, Executive Director

Jeannie ConnerJeannie Conner was born and raised in Santa Clara Valley, and brings over 20 years of non-profit leadership experience to the Squaw Valley Institute. Known for her public policy and advocacy background, Jeannie has served as a director of numerous non-profit boards and has led many successful fund raising and public awareness campaigns. Jeannie and her husband, Terry, have owned their home in Homewood since 1988, and she enjoys playing competitive tennis, traveling with her three children, and taking her yellow lab, Mac, out for long morning walks. Squaw Valley Institute is fortunate to have the benefit of Jeannie's expertise for the summer 2011 period.

John Wilcox, Board President

wilcoxpic.jpgJohn led the initial founding group for the Squaw Valley Institute and has served as its Board President since 2002. He is a retired business executive from the San Francisco bay area, and was founder and CEO of a successful business. He and his wife Barbara retired and became full time residents of Squaw Valley in 1993, and have since engaged in a variety of part time and volunteer work in community organizations. In his spare time, John pursues his passions for skiing, hiking and tennis.

Nicola Kerslake, Vice President

kerslakepic.jpgNicola was one of the founding members of the Squaw Valley Institute. After graduating from Oxford University, she lived in London, Singapore, Taipei and Philadelphia before settling full time in California. Her career in finance has allowed her to travel extensively through some of the most remote parts of Asia and Eastern Europe. She has led large teams of equity analysts and managed significant private market funds. Her field of expertise is real assets (energy, agriculture, metals, timber, water, renewables); her research has been published in numerous books and industry journals and her Real Assets Junkie blog can be seen here. She is currently working with agricultural and geothermal projects.linkedin.png

Marc Sapoznik, Board Secretary

sapoznik.jpgA longtime resident of Lake Tahoe, Marc is Marketing and Public Relations Manager for the Resort at Squaw Creek. He serves as a Committee Member for the Squaw Valley Business Association, Golf the High Sierra marketing co-op, Summit Village Community Association, and has served on a number of Lake Tahoe-area special event committees. Previously, he worked for the California Travel and Tourism Commission, the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association, as well as owning his own PR Agency. Over the years he has worked for a variety of 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations. He is a former member of the Public Relations Society of America, and an executive member of the National Council of Youth Sports. In his free time, he can be found snowshoeing, moutain biking, hiking or kayaking in and around Lake Tahoe. He is also a published writer of fiction. linkedin.png

Rick Lamb, Board Treasurer

rick_lamb.jpgRick is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and received his B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. As an international banker and corporate financial executive, he has lived in New York, London, Singapore, Prague, Irvine, and Tampa as well as San Francisco, but Tahoe has been his favorite place since childhood. Rick is a Founding Member of the Squaw Valley Institute and has worked with many other nonprofits, in Tahoe and elsehwere. Rick now lives in Incline Village and indulges his passions for tennis, skiing and mountain biking. His daughter Katie and her family live in Truckee. linkedin.png

Pete Bansen, Squaw Valley Fire Chief

bansenpic.jpgPete Bansen grew up in Philadelphia and moved to Squaw Valley a few days after graduating from Colorado College. After many years in the ski industry, Pete became Squaw Valley's Fire Chief; a post which he has held since 1993. Pete has been the Squaw Valley Institute's Secretary-Treasurer since the very beginning, and a Director for nearly as long. Pete lives in Truckee with his wife, Cindy and his children, Paul and Helen.

Deb Darby-Dudley, Partner, HD96 Publishing

debdarbypic.jpgDeb Darby-Dudley is a partner in HD96 Publishing, a tourism marketing and custom publishing firm in Incline Village, NV. Deb is a long time resident of Lake Tahoe, and has worked in the Ski industry as well as for various tourism organizations at the lake. Deb is a former president of the Tahoe Tallac Association and the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board, and is currently a member of the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association Board of Directors. Deb organized theh Squaw Valley Institute "KT Awards" for two years, and continues to volunteer on the Development Committee of the Squaw Valley Institute Board. 

Kent Hoopingarner, General Manager, Homewood Mountain Resort

hoopingarnerpic.jpgKent "Hoop" Hoopingarner joined JMA Ventures LLC in December 2006, as General Manager of Homewood Mountain Resort in California. He brings a long history of expertise in resort management and development to the company. Prior to his current position, Hoop oversaw operations at Alpine Meadows Resort in California, Purgatory Ski Resort in Colorado, and Snowbird in Utah. At Snowbird, he experienced the ground up development and construction of the resort, as well as had executive oversight of all operations. Past affiliations include serving on the Board of Directors for the California Ski Industry and the National Ski Area Association Avalanche Committee, as well as Chair of the Board of Directors for the Salt Lake City County Service Area #3.

Julie Maurer, Vice President Sales and Marketing, Squaw Valley

maurerpic.jpgJulie oversees resort/hospitality marketing at Squaw Valley. This position includes developing and executing strategic marketing plans for product development, advertising, sales, public relations, direct marketing, events, internet marketing, strategic alliances and promotions. Previously, Julie was in a similar position at Booth Creek Resorts, where her staff and resorts received the North American Snowsports Journalists Association's Excellence in Media award, Far West Ski Association's Ski Resort of the Year award, and recognitions in national publications for Family Resort of the Year, Top 50 Ski Resorts, Top Golf Resorts, and Top Tennis Resorts. She is also recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award given by Rotary International. Julie attended California State University, San Diego, where she earned her B.A. in Journalism, with a minor in Business Administration. She serves on the Marketing Committee for the North Lake Tahoe Resort Association and is a member of the National Ski Areas Association marketing council. She is a member and past president of Ski Lake Tahoe, as cooperative marketing organization promoting Lake Tahoe's seven largest resorts. Mike Murphy, General Manager, West Shore Café

A long time Tahoe resident, Mike is the General Manager of West Shore Café. Previously, he was a manager in the hospitality industry, having managed the Martis Camp Club and PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn. He was educated at the University of California, Santa Barbara. linkedin.png
