The Squaw Valley Institute is a501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting the community through inspirational programming celebrating the arts, wellness, education and adventure. The SVI Team
Matt has developed a strong sense of community with Squaw Valley over the past 20 years and is proud to call himself a full time resident of
Truckee, CA. His passion for the arts and mountain life culture run deep within the Lake Tahoe basin. He currently divides time between his career as a brand ambassador for Volkl Marker International and his creative role for A-R-E Tahoe producing cultural, music and sporting events. His client roster includes Sony, Ski Channel, Red Bull, ION and Perfect Moment clothing to name a few. Most recently he founded the “Made in Tahoe” festival at Squaw Valley featuring all local talent born in the region.
A true citizen of the world, Matt has previously lived in the French and German Alps for over a decade throughout his career. He is now excited to have the opportunity to combine his experiences to further enrich the Squaw Valley community.
DR. ROBERT LERI
Dr. Robert Leri was appointed the Superintendent Chief Learning Officer of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District in January 2012 and assumed full-time leadership in April 2012. Prior to his appointment to TTUSD, Dr. Leri was the Deputy Superintendent of the Arcadia Unified School District in LA County. He also served as Assistant Superintendent and the Director of Technology, Information Services, and Assessment during his 16-year tenure in Arcadia. Dr. Leri was the Director of Science Curriculum, Educational Technology & Media Services for the Ceres Unified School District in Ceres, CA., serving as a secondary school principal, high school, and elementary school teacher. Dr. Leri is highly involved in the community and also serves on the Boards of the Tahoe Safe Alliance and the Boys & Girls Club and is active in the Truckee Rotary.
As SVI Associate Director Emily brings to the Institute 21 years of experience of innovative marketing, sales and public relations within the tourism and hospitality industries along with non-profit associations. Formerly working with companies such as US Air Vacations, Mark Travel Corporation, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, Benchmark Hospitality and Destination Resorts, Emily has developed and executed strategic marketing and advertising plans along with product development. Most recently Emily has worked with the Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation. Emily attended Florida State University and has served on many boards and committees including; Tahoe Truckee Excellence In Education Foundation, NLTRA, NSAA and the Truckee Trails Foundation
Anne Carney is the Director of Marketing and Communications at SVI. Anne’s strong leadership, extensive experience, and passion for community has helped us cultivate our brand, innovate new programs, and excel within marketing and communications.
Anne Carney is originally from Marin County and has been a Lake Tahoe resident for over a decade. Anne owns High Sierra Marketing and is highly involved in the local community as well as the foundations that support it. With over 10 years of marketing and communications experience, her career has spanned several industries, including non-profits, corporate, fashion, and action sports. Her clients list includes our local Squaw Valley businesses, Columbia Sportswear, and Vail Resorts. Anne is an alumnus of University of Reno Nevada.
Keoki Flagg is a world-renowned fine art and extreme sports photographer. His unique limited edition photographs cover a wide range of subjects and span all 7 continents, and are admired internationally. Flagg is the recipient of numerous awards including winner of the 2001 Banff International Photo Contest, the KT Award and the Captain John Noel award. Flagg has produced commercial work for a vast international clientele including VISA, General Electric, DuPont, California Tourist Board, New Zealand Tourist Board, National Geographic Television, Discovery Channel, Maui Jim, Völkl, Rossignol, and Squaw Valley Resort. His images have been published in, and graced the covers of National Geographic Adventure, Men’s Journal, Vogue, Men’s Fitness, Audubon, Archeology, Outside, Geo, Sunset, Backpacker, Sports Illustrated for Women, Powder, Ski & Skiing Magazine, The Mountain Zone, Warren Miller Entertainment, and many others.
Ryan is an Academic Life Coach for teens in the Reno/Tahoe area and the owner of Academic One LLC. His passion for facilitating progressive and unique systems for self-improvement lead him to follow the path of Life Coaching as a career. He is motivated by the transformational advancements he sees his clients implement into their lives. He is enthusiastic about developing and sustaining a culture of empowering support, influential learning, and connection with The SVI Youth program. Ryan's workshops engage all types of learners and thinkers in his pursuit of furthering innovative learning environments that invite connection to the self and community. Ryan received his Bachelors degree from UNR emphasizing in Psychology and Education. He is a current resident of neighboring Reno, where is he is joined and inspired by his wife Angela and their two sons Kai and Kingston.
Tom has over 18 years of experience within the mountain resort and snow sports industry, most currently with Squaw Valley focusing on resort strategy and planning. A consummate entrepreneur Tom has successfully built an international action sports event company and continues with his current project to fundamentally improve helmets and head protection within action sports. Tom originally moved to the Tahoe area in 1996 after completing his B.A. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona. Additionally, he spent 10 years in Vail Colorado working with Booth Creek Ski Holdings to build their resort asset base including Northstar-at-Tahoe and Sierra-at-Tahoe, before returning to Truckee in 2011. Tom is an avid mountain biker, skier, surfer, fly fisherman and, most importantly, dad.
Tamara McKinney is a former World Cup alpine ski racer for the United States. Her passion for skiing and her world-class ski-racing skills developed from a childhood of skiing in Squaw Valley, California and throughout the Sierra. After completing her storied ski-racing career, Tamara entered the real estate world to bring these winning qualities to clients in Lake Tahoe. She is a dedicated mother of an up-and-coming athlete. She remains closely involved with the Squaw Ski Team, the US Ski Team, and our Tahoe community. Tamara brings a lifetime of knowledge of the Tahoe area to SVI.
Lawrence has been a Squaw Valley local since 1969, and a licensed realtor since 1974. He is a long time member of the Squaw Valley Property Owner's Association, past Residential Director for the Village at Squaw Valley Neighborhood Company, past Residential Director for the Resort at Squaw Creek Homeowner’s Association, and a current golf member of the Martis Camp Community Association. He and his wife Vikki are also founding members of Squaw Valley Institute.
Rick is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and received his B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley. As an international banker and corporate financial executive, he has lived in New York, London, Singapore, Prague, Irvine, and Tampa as well as San Francisco, but Tahoe has been his favorite place since childhood. Rick is a Founding Member of SVI and has worked with many other nonprofits, in Tahoe and elsewhere.
